Frequently Asked Questions

+ Why design with a bifold closet door?

Bifold closet doors are an excellent door of choice, when you have a Magiglide brand bifold. Since durability is not an issue with our door, bifolds allow you to have full open, useable closet storage space. There is no floor track, which allows for full accessibility. Bifold doors take up very little floor space, making them practical in small areas. Bifolds are most ideal in closet door openings and pantrys.

+ When to design with a bipass closet door?

Bipass closet doors are most ideal when you are addressing an opening that doesn’t have any room for a door to open due to the location of a different swing door, or any other furniture that will get in the way. Accessibility is only an available with these types of doors on 1/2 of the closet at a time. When working with blueprints, many times we will price out bifolds surrounding the bipass closet doors, for those openings that it makes sense for when producing a quote. This is a frequently asked question?

+ What floor plate should I go with?

Magiglide bifold and pivot closet doors have the option to install a flat or standard floor plate at the same cost. Standard floor plates are perfect for all flooring types possible. We do not suggest mounting floor plates on top of carpet however. Mount to the subfloor for this case. Flat floor plates are ideal for a hardwood or tile hard surface, where the bracket will be installed directly on top of the floor through a pilot hole.

+ What finish options are available for single family home projects?

Majority of finish options are available for larger multifamily scale projects. If you are ordering small quantities, then the finishes available include: Melamine, primed paintable melamine, prefinished as well as any wood grain veneer.

+ What handle comes with the closet door system?

All Magiglide pivot and bifold closets come with our 96mm white nylon, ADA compliant pull for use. All Magiglide bipass closets come with a brass round flush pull. If you would to order a different pull or knob, contact your project manager for the add on pricing. Handles will be installed on site by your GC.

+ When should I design with a pivot closet door?

Pivot closet doors emulate pre-hung swing doors, without the casing requirement from a construction standpoint underneath the drywall. Pivots are a great option when accessibility widths are constrained. For example, if you need to have 32” clear span for the closet opening, you can design a single panel pivot closet at 34.25” to accommodate the door hinge when open. (Instead of the 38” required for a 2 panel bifold.)

+ How do I measure an opening for a closet door?

We work off of the finished opening size. When measuring, made sure drywall is complete surrounding the opening and take your measurements in width and height exact. Do not try to figure out the panel widths or height of the actual closet door. We custom make our closets to the nearest 1/4” in width, and the nearest 1/2” in height. Drywall-Drywall. + When my project is in the design phase, why should I think about deleting stub walls surrounding closets?

The best way to design our durable bifolds/pivots/bipass closet doors is to design them without stub walls or surrounding walls. Many design our closets floor to ceiling, wall to wall. This optimizes closet storage space in urban settings. It also saves a bundle in construction by not casing in for a prehung closet door. Time and time again, when working with the Architect-GC-Developer teams, or a design build firm, we are able to design closets in this way, as a Value Engineering option from the design phase of the project.

+ How do the doors ship to a jobsite?

Full truck load orders are shipped on flat-bed trailers, weather wrapped for protection. Doors are stacked and strapped on skids, each skid weighing between 15-2,500 lbs. Factory direct deliveries are tail-gate only. We always quote in the most economical shipping manner possible, which means the fewest shipments to your job-site.

Most freight companies allow a limited time for off-loading. If the product is not fully offloaded during this time, an hourly penalty will be applied, which are to the contractor’s account. There are a lot of variables upon arrival of doors and they are all the responsibility of the General Contractor, or his designate. You will be notified of the arrival date and time of your shipment so that you can prepare for the product arrival.

+ How do the doors ship to a single family home project?

Each closet door is delivered in small quantities via a common carrier direct from our manufacturer’s plant to a location you determine. Most homeowners ship closet doors direct to their homes. The shipping company will contact you with a delivery window on the day of delivery. If is up to you to be there at the time of delivery, to unload the skid off of the truck and to dispose of the crating materials. There is a liftgate option add-on for this type of delivery. The liftgate takes the crate from the truck and lowers it to the ground. You will be responsible to disposing the crating materials and getting the closet door out of the crate.
